What’s an easy way to calm myself down when I have a panic attack?

Lately, I’ve been having more and more panic attacks. I would lay down, get a paper bag, and breath into it until I could breath calmly again. But afterwords, my chest would slightly hurt. I had a small panic attack yesterday, and my chest was hurting a bit this morning. Is there a way to calm myself down in a safer way? And can you give me any advice to help me get less panic attacks?

The best way is to take deep and long breaths. Try not to think about what is causing you to panic.

Go to your doctor and describe your symptoms. You will most likely be put on a small does of some type of benzodiazapine or other optional non addictive medications. I know panic attacks are not fun.

Chill out. I have found that method very useful. Just take a few long deep breaths and relax. Think about what caused the attack and try and find ways to prevent that from happening again. Just think of happier thoughts and take my advice. You should be OK after these steps.

I had anxiety issue after quit smoking last year, my doctor prescribed low dose of lorazepam kind of medication for #30. I took 27 of them, it did help my anxiety issue. Deep breath, such as purse -lip breathing technique is helpful, also don’t drink coffee or tea since they contain caffeine.

Think of something funny. You just can’t be anxious and laugh at the same time.
Remember a skit from SNL, or Blazing Saddles, or Young Frankenstein. Or a joke you heard recently
God bless.

I know, panic attacks suck, right?
Try to learn the triggers of a panic attack and avoid them. Breathe slowly, concentrate on stopping the anxious feelings. Tell yourself that it’s only a panic attack, it can’t hurt you. Sit down or lay down and close your eyes. Breate in, 1,2,3, breathe out, 1,2,3. Listen to relaxing music if you find it helps. Read, watch TV, do something to distract yourself. Sorry I can’t be of more help. but I know what you’re going through. Just remember that YOU are in control! Good luck. xo.
