Is it possible to stop yourself from having a panic attack?
I’m 14 and I’ve had several panic attacks, but latley when I feel one about the happen, I can stop myself. I take a deep breath, close my eyes, and dig my nails into myself (I know it’s self harm but it makes me feel better). But after I do that, my shaking stops, my heart slows down, and my breath comes normally. Is that possible or is it not really a panic attack about to happen?

You have a lot of self control, but usually panic attacks are triggered by an irrational fear. It could be you were recently put in a stressful situation too but you need to figure out why you were afraid in the first place to fully tackle the problem. If I were you I would keep one at bay by listening to music or digging my nails into an object (because it gets annoying when people start to notice your scratched up) also talk to someone strait on about the problem like a friend who is understanding. It is also completely possible to make panic attacks go away for good… so keep at it. If it ever gets worse see a counselor/doctor.

find a good book to read and every time you feel the panic attack coming on pick up the book and start reading
